John Ruiz is a retired professional boxer from the United States. He was born on January 4, 1972, in Methuen, Massachusetts. Ruiz is of Puerto Rican descent and is known for being the first Hispanic heavyweight champion in boxing history.

Ruiz had a successful boxing career, winning the WBA heavyweight title twice in his career. He first won the title in 2001 by defeating Evander Holyfield and then regained it in a rematch with Holyfield in 2003. Ruiz also had notable fights against other top heavyweight boxers such as Roy Jones Jr., Andrew Golota, and Nikolai Valuev.

Ruiz retired from professional boxing in 2010 with a record of 44 wins (30 by knockout), 9 losses, and 1 draw. He is considered one of the most successful Hispanic boxers in the history of the sport and is credited with breaking barriers for Latino boxers in the heavyweight division.
